MAM Rio Appoints New Artistic Direction Duo in Transparency Move
Fabio Szwarcwald, the executive director, has appointed Keyna Eleison and Pablo Lafuente as the new artistic directors of the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio (MAM Rio). Their vision includes a commitment to 'de-verticalize' management and improve internal diversity. They are tasked with rejuvenating the museum, which has historical importance due to events such as the 1967 Nova Objetividade exhibition and the 1971 Domingos da Criação. Their initiatives will be launched in July 2021, emphasizing a cohesive artistic identity while reopening the building designed by Affonso Eduardo Reidy to the public. Additionally, they plan to address the lack of representation of Black, Indigenous, queer, and female perspectives. In October, Fernando Cocchiarale and Fernanda Lopes will depart from the curatorial team, with their positions to be filled through a public contest.
