Maltabiennale.art 2024 Unveils 78 Artists for Inaugural Edition
Maltabiennale.art has revealed the lineup of artists, curators, and the overarching theme for its first edition, taking place from March to May 2024. The central exhibition, titled 'white olive sea groves,' will explore the Mediterranean through an introspective lens, highlighting Malta as a crossroads of Eastern and Western cultures. Curated by artistic director Sofia Baldi Pighi, along with Elisa Carollo and Emma Mattei, the event will showcase 78 artists from various backgrounds, including notable figures like Zineb Sedira, Basim Magdy, and Zehra Doğan from the Arab world and the Middle East. This exhibition will be hosted at significant heritage locations in Malta, including the palaces of Birgu, the Ħaġar Qim temples, and the Gozo citadel, featuring installations that reflect Malta’s rich history and cultural legacy.
