festival-fair · 2026-04-20

The inaugural biennial in Malta, titled Insulaphilia, is scheduled to run from 11 March to 31 May 2024 across 12 historic locations in Malta and Gozo, such as the Grandmaster's Palace in Valletta and the Ġgantija temples. Curated by Sofia Baldi Pighi, the event explores themes of island identity, migration, colonialism, and settlement, drawing inspiration from the philosophy of Gilles Deleuze. With the backing of UNESCO, the biennial will showcase works from 72 international artists, including Tania Bruguera, Rosa Barba, and Pedro Reyes. Additionally, eleven national pavilions will represent countries including Austria, China, France, Germany, Italy, Malta, Palestine, Poland, Serbia, Spain, Turkey, and Ukraine, featuring artists like Alan Abd El Monim, Camilla Alberti, and Anna Anderegg.
