Mallorca PhotoFest Launches as New Biennial Photography Festival

The first edition of PHOF – Mallorca PhotoFest, a new international biennial festival dedicated to photography and contemporary image, will take place from April 25 to August 30 across Mallorca. Promoted by Art Palma Contemporani, the festival aims to transform the island into a widespread platform for visual culture. Over four months, Palma and numerous municipalities will host exhibitions, talks, workshops, screenings, and guided tours through a network of institutions, foundations, galleries, and independent spaces. Participating venues include Fundació Miró Mallorca, Es Baluard Museu d'Art Contemporani de Palma, Casal Solleric, and Centre Cultural La Misericòrdia. The official opening is on April 25 at the Pati de Dones of La Misericòrdia. The program features over thirty projects across institutional and private galleries, with artists such as Joan Fontcuberta, Donna Ferrato, Pixy Liao, Jamie Diamond, and Axel Hütte. Thematic sections include PhotoExhibitions, PhotoTalks, PhotoBook Club, PhotoTours, PhotoStreet Press, and Calvià PhotoFilm. The festival emphasizes educational and participatory activities, including specialized workshops and photobook meetings. A distinctive element is its territorial extension beyond Palma to the 'Part Forana' region, creating a decentralized model that connects communities, institutions, and the public.
