Malick Sidibé and Seydou Keïta at MC2 Gallery in Milan
MC2 Gallery in Milan presents 'Voix d'Afrique', featuring about sixty photographs by Malick Sidibé (1936–2016) and six by Seydou Keïta (1921–2001), offering a rare glimpse into Malian life from the 1950s to the 1980s. Sidibé's vintage 1970s postcard-sized prints and some reframed 1990s editions capture the vibrant nightlife and youth culture of post-colonial Mali, while Keïta's large-scale 1997 reprints of 1950s studio portraits exude quiet dignity. The works come from an Italian collector who, guided by gallerist André Magnin in 1990s New York, recognized the significance of these photographers who rose to prominence in Mali after World War II. The exhibition, curated by Claudio Composti, runs until November 4, 2016, at MC2 Gallery on Via Malaga 4 in Milan.
