Maledetto Modigliani: docufilm on Amedeo Modigliani arrives in Italian cinemas

The documentary film 'Maledetto Modigliani' will be screened in Italian cinemas from October 12 to 14, 2020, distributed by Nexo Digital. Directed by Valeria Parisi and co-written with Arianna Marelli based on a subject by Didi Gnocchi, the film offers a comprehensive portrait of the artist Amedeo Modigliani. A distinctive feature is the narrative voice of Jeanne Hébuterne, Modigliani's lover and muse, played by Caterina Fantetti, which provides a female perspective on his life and work. The documentary explores Modigliani's birth in Livorno to a Jewish family, his crucial years in Paris, and his legacy as a painter and sculptor. It includes interviews with figures such as filmmaker Paolo Virzì, also from Livorno. The film highlights that Modigliani sold paintings for about 10 francs during his lifetime, while today his works fetch hundreds of millions of dollars at auction, with particular appeal to Japanese collectors. His oeuvre includes over 400 authentic paintings, about 30 sculptures, and more than 3,000 drawings. The documentary also examines his relationships with women, his addictions, and the sensual yet abstract quality of his female figures, which reference caryatids and Greek korai.
