Malagola School of Vocality Opens in Ravenna

In October 2021, the Teatro delle Albe launched Malagola, a school and study center dedicated to voice and sound, housed in the 18th-century Palazzo Malagola in Ravenna. The school, conceived and directed by actress Ermanna Montanari with vice-director Enrico Pitozzi from the University of Bologna, offers a free one-year course for 15 participants selected from 131 applicants. The curriculum includes five modules: aesthetics of contemporary scene, vocal creation practices, sound creation practices, physiology of voice, and project management. Faculty includes Meredith Monk, Chiara Guidi, Moni Ovadia, Luigi Ceccarelli, and Franco Fussi. The project also involves building the Teatro delle Albe archive and sound archives, with artist Stefano Ricci creating a map and signs throughout the building. Supported by the Municipality of Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna Region, and the Ministry of Culture, Malagola aims to blend theory and practice, tradition and experimentation.
