Makrosha opens new Union Square showroom designed by Tara McCauley
Esha Ahmed has unveiled a new showroom for her textile label, Makrosha, located in a historic Gilded Age structure at 1 Union Square W, New York. Designed by Tara McCauley, the showroom expands from a smaller nearby studio and captures the essence of a 19th-century atelier. It includes a vestibule adorned with Makrosha's Meena fabric, a vintage Murano chandelier, and an antique wooden cabinet. The main area showcases fabrics hung on gold metal rods against lilac limewash walls, while a double-height meeting room features darker lilac paint and antique furnishings, including a cabinet from the 1890s. An upper-level nook and a downstairs sample room with metallic wallpaper inspired by Andy Warhol's Factory round out the space. The opening also marks the debut of the Shinki rug collection, influenced by early 20th-century Japanese design. Ahmed, who began her journey with Makrosha from her car and a Queens apartment, now has a team of three. The showroom operates by appointment only.
