MAK mounts first major retrospective of Vally Wieselthier
The MAK Museum in Vienna is showcasing a significant retrospective dedicated to Vally Wieselthier, a prominent ceramic artist of the early 20th century, from now until early 2024. The exhibition, entitled "VALLY WIESELTHIER: Ceramic Sculptor," presents 160 pieces that trace her artistic evolution across Europe and the United States. A student of renowned mentors Josef Hoffmann and Michael Powolny, Wieselthier moved beyond traditional pottery to create diverse works, such as masonry heaters and fountains, while also exploring graphic design and textiles. The exhibition is made possible by a partial donation of her estate from her family in the United States.
