Major Tiepolo Exhibition Opens at Gallerie d'Italia in Milan

The exhibition titled 'Tiepolo. Venice, Milan, Europe' has been inaugurated at Gallerie d'Italia, the museum of Intesa Sanpaolo located in Milan's Piazza della Scala. This marks the first retrospective in Milan dedicated to the 18th-century Venetian artist Giambattista Tiepolo, curated by Fernando Mazzocca and Alessandro Morandotti. Celebrating the 250th anniversary of Tiepolo's passing (Venice, 1696 – Madrid, 1770), the showcase features his formative years, mythological themes, and pieces by his contemporaries such as Canaletto and Bellotto. A significant portion of the exhibition focuses on Tiepolo's time in Milan (1730-31, 1737, 1740), including restored frescoes from the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio and Palazzo Gallarati Scotti, while the concluding section examines his later Spanish years and presents a cycle of projections of his works in Lombardy.
