Major retrospective honors Hassan Sharif's conceptual art legacy at Sharjah Art Foundation
From November 4 to February 3, a retrospective named 'Hassan Sharif: I Am The Single Work Artist' took place at the Sharjah Art Foundation, celebrating the legacy of Emirati conceptual artist Hassan Sharif, who passed away in 2016. Curated by Hoor Al Qasimi, the exhibition spanned more than 40 years of Sharif's creations, organized into seven thematic sections. It showcased early cartoons from the mid-1970s alongside significant installations such as 'Broom' (2016) and '555' (2016). 'Hassan's Atelier' reconstructed his workspace, displaying sketches and personal memorabilia, including a portrait of his brother Hussain from 1981. The exhibition also featured performance documentation and works inspired by American minimalism and European avant-garde movements. Sharif was a co-founder of The Emirates Fine Art Society in 1980.
