Major exhibitions in early 2020 explore painting's revival, image economies, and global landscapes
From 6 February to 10 May, the Whitechapel Gallery in London showcases 'Radical Figures: Painting in the New Millennium,' featuring ten artists, including Tala Madani and Dana Schutz, who examine figurative painting since 2000. The Brooklyn Museum's 'Jacques-Louis David Meets Kehinde Wiley,' running from 24 January to 10 May, juxtaposes Wiley's 2015 artwork with David's piece from 1800–01 to investigate black representation. Meanwhile, the Guggenheim Museum will display Rem Koolhaas's 'Countryside, The Future' from 20 February to 14 August. Other exhibitions include 'The Supermarket of Images' at Jeu de Paume in Paris (11 February – 7 June) and 'The Trees, Light Green' at Bonniers Konsthall in Stockholm (22 January – 29 March). The Dhaka Art Summit is scheduled for 7 to 15 February, and Max Hetzler in Berlin features 'The Ballad of William N. Copley' from 17 January to 7 March. Johanna Unzueta's exhibit at Modern Art Oxford runs from 8 February to 10 May, while Annet Gelink in Amsterdam presents Sarah van Sonsbeeck's work from 18 January to 22 February.
