Majhi International Art Residency Programme Launches in Venice

The Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation launched its first-ever Majhi International Art Residency Programme in Venice, curated by Caterina Corni. It took place at Lightbox, located in the historic Ex Convento dei Crociferi in Cannaregio, which is close to the Combo hostel near the Rialto Bridge. Eleven artists participated from Bangladesh, Italy, and Turkey/Germany, including Umut Yasat, David Dalla Venezia, and Dhali Al Mamoon, among others. They engaged with the theme, "In these uncertain times of crisis and instability, does life really make art more interesting?" inspired by Ralph Rugoff's 58th Venice Biennale. The residency concluded on August 3, 2019, with a site-specific exhibition, and Lightbox intends to publish a catalogue with interviews and reflections. This initiative aims to create a global network for Bangladeshi and European artists, changing themes and locations annually.
