Majd Abdel Hamid and Sofía Salazar Rosales at Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen

Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen presents a double exhibition featuring Majd Abdel Hamid and Sofía Salazar Rosales, both creating new works for the venue. Abdel Hamid, born in Damascus in 1988 and based between Paris and Beirut, focuses on textiles and embroidery, crafting minimalistic, small-scale pieces that explore identity, time, fragility, and materiality. His slow, patient process produces detailed cross-stitch works that resist a fast-paced world, and he will occupy the first room with pieces reflecting on the region's industrial textile history through what he calls 'de-automatisation of fabrics.' Salazar Rosales, born in Quito in 1999 and based in Amsterdam, transforms the middle and third rooms with a show titled 'Imagínate vivir en Suiza y perderte esto,' referencing a Latin American meme contrasting Switzerland's order with Latin American chaos. She uses diverse materials like glass beads, paraffin, epoxy, and bronze powder, foregrounding crafts as aesthetic resistance. Her sculptures and installations question productivity and value, marking her first Swiss institutional exhibition. The exhibition runs at Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen.
