Maisara Baroud's Gaza War Diary Exhibition in Ramallah
The 'I'm Still Alive' exhibition at Zawyeh Gallery in Ramallah features black-and-white drawings by Gazan artist Maisara Baroud, who lost both his home and studio in Gaza City in October 2023. Since that time, Baroud has been capturing his experiences of loss, displacement, and bombardment amid the ongoing conflict. Due to the inability to showcase his work in Gaza, the gallery partnered with artist Mohammad Sabaaneh and others to display Baroud's digital creations on its walls. Sabaaneh, who has previously worked with Baroud, likened his own experiences of drawing while imprisoned to this exhibition, viewing it as a defiant response to the siege. The show commenced on April 18 and will continue until June 23, after which the artworks will be erased, highlighting the project's transient nature. Baroud's diary conveys a message to friends that he remains alive, chronicling tales of destruction, loss, and resilience.
