Maike Cruse Named Fair Director of Art Basel in Basel
Maike Cruse will assume the position of fair director at Art Basel in Basel this July, departing from her role as director of Gallery Weekend Berlin. She previously served as artistic director at ABC Art Berlin Contemporary from 2012 to 2016 and later directed Art Berlin until 2019. Cruse's extensive history with Art Basel includes heading its communications department between 2008 and 2011. In a statement, she expressed enthusiasm about returning to the fair, noting she hasn't missed an edition in nearly two decades and maintained regular contact while leading Gallery Weekend Berlin. Her appointment follows the 19th edition of Gallery Weekend Berlin, which concluded last weekend. Cruse has led Gallery Weekend Berlin since 2014 and will oversee Art Basel 2024 in her new capacity.
