MAIIAM's 'ERRATA' Exhibition Proposes Corrective to Thai Art History Through Regional Dialogue
The MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum in Chiang Mai is showcasing 'ERRATA' from July 30 to February 14, which confronts nationalist perspectives in Thai art history. This exhibition is part of the 'Collecting Entanglements and Embodied Histories' series and is a collaboration with Galeri Nasional Indonesia, Berlin's Nationalgalerie, and the Singapore Art Museum. Drawing inspiration from Koh Nguang How's 2004 analysis of Chua Mia Tee's 1959 painting 'National Language Class,' the show features artworks that challenge state-approved narratives. Organized into six segments, it includes critiques from Anuwat Apimukmongkon and Agung Kurniawan, and reflects on Cold War influences through Keiichi Tanaami's 'Oh Yoko!' (1973). MAIIAM is the only institution in Thailand with a publicly accessible permanent collection of contemporary Thai art.
