MAIIAM Presents 'Living Another Future' Group Exhibition

MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum in Chiang Mai, in collaboration with in-tangible institute, presents 'LIVING ANOTHER FUTURE,' a group exhibition curated by Zoe Butt with contributions from Ariana Chaivaranon and Kamonpan Tivawong. The show features eight artists: Sammy Baloji, Liu Chuang, Naiza Khan, Khvay Samnang, Tuấn Andrew Nguyễn, Sara Ouhaddou, Dansoung Sungvornveshapan, and Ubatsat. Running for one year, the exhibition explores how narratives—from superstition and folklore to political doctrine and colonial conceit—shape desired futures. Works span video, film, photography, sculpture, printmaking, installation, and ceramics, addressing themes such as the extinction of rhinos due to horn 'cures,' colonial resource extraction, urban migration, gender inequality, and the technological categorization of nature as a resource. The exhibition emphasizes storytelling and minority perspectives, challenging assumptions about the past. in-tangible institute used the exhibition as a professional development opportunity, mentoring emerging Thai curator Kamonpan Tivawong, the institute's first Curatorial Fellow sponsored by MAIIAM. A public program includes film screenings by Nguyễn Trinh Thi, Taiki Sakpisit, Jen Liu, and Timoteus Anggawan Kusno, a performance by Zarina Muhammad, plus music, lectures, and tours. A digital interactive designed by Rawiruj Suradin and Napisa Leelasuphapong showcases research by artist Ubatsat.
