Maicol & Mirco's Graphic Novel Explores Giorgio Morandi's Artistic Vision
Maicol & Mirco, the fictional duo behind Michael Rocchetti, have released a graphic novel titled 'Natura Morta. Una domanda a Giorgio Morandi' published by 24 Ore Cultura. The book coincides with a major exhibition at Palazzo Reale in Milan. It imagines an impossible interview with the Bolognese painter Giorgio Morandi (1890-1964), asking why he only depicted objects. Set in his studio at Via Fondazza 36, Bologna, the narrative uses sarcasm and immediacy to explore Morandi's focus on everyday items. Rocchetti describes Morandi as the painter who reconciled him with painting after radical contemporary art. The volume is the first in a new comics series by 24Ore Cultura. It differs from their 2020 pamphlet on Filippo Tommaso Marinetti's Futurist Manifesto, where their characters interacted with the text; here, only Morandi appears. Bologna will honor Morandi in 2024 with a diffuse museum for the 60th anniversary of his death.
