Mahony Collective's 'Ghosts and the Self' at Villa delle Rose

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The Austrian-German collective Mahony (Stephan Kobatsch, Clemens Leuschner, Jenny Wolka) presents 'Ghosts and the Self' at Villa delle Rose in Bologna, part of the ROSE residency program. Curated by Giulia Pezzoli, the exhibition explores colonial persistence through signs and traces. Works range from subtle adhesive letters on doors (Untitled, 2016) to monumental installations like Save Harbour (European Spectacle #1), which embroiders Greco-Roman symbols onto military blankets on an altar. The show critiques historical and anthropological museum display methods, questioning museology and spectatorship. Deinventory (2016) photographs once-prominent busts now stored in the villa's attic. The exhibition runs until July 31, 2016.
