Magritte and Broodthaers in Dialogue at Brussels Exhibition

The Musées royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique in Brussels presents "Magritte, Broodthaers & l'Art Contemporain," running until February 18, 2018. Curated by museum director Michel Draguet, the exhibition explores the artistic relationship between René Magritte (1898–1967) and Marcel Broodthaers (1924–1976), alongside contemporary artists influenced by Magritte. The show marks the 50th anniversary of Magritte's death and includes works by Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and Keith Haring. Draguet notes that Magritte gave Broodthaers a copy of Mallarmé's "Un coup de dés" in 1945, which inspired Broodthaers's 1968 work. The exhibition also features interactive digital elements and aims to present a "new" image of Magritte as an international figure in dialogue with American and contemporary artists. A future exhibition in 2019 will pair Magritte with Dalí in collaboration with the Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida.
