Magnus Renfrew to direct new Taipei Dangdai art fair launching in January 2019

Magnus Renfrew, cofounder of Art HK and former deputy chairman of Asia at Bonham's auction house, will direct a new art fair in Taipei called Taipei Dangdai, meaning 'the present moment' in Mandarin. The inaugural edition is scheduled for January 2019 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, coinciding with the Taipei Biennial, and will feature 80 exhibitors from Asia and other regions. Renfrew highlighted Taipei's established gallery scene, world-class museums, vibrant artist community, recognized biennial, and sophisticated collector base as foundations for the fair, aiming to provide Asian galleries with broader exposure and international collectors with access to significant Asian works. A selection panel including Patricia Crockett of Sprüth Magers, Waling Boers of Boers-Li Gallery, Isa Lorenzo of Silverlens Galleries, Edouard Malingue of Edouard Malingue Gallery, and Elisa Uematsu of Taka Ishii Gallery will judge gallery applications. The fair is a joint venture between Renfrew, his Art HK cofounder Tim Etchells, and events managers Sandy Angus and Will Ramsay. Renfrew previously directed Art HK, which was acquired by Art Basel in 2012 and rebranded as Art Basel Hong Kong, where he remained as director.
