Magma Festival Revives Abandoned Spaces in Milano Marittima

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

The Magma collective's Modulo Fest 2015 transformed abandoned buildings along the Romagna Riviera into venues for contemporary art and experimental electronic music. Locations included the former Woodpecker nightclub, the Centro Climatico Marino, and the Montecatini concrete structure, deserted since 1998. The festival featured installations by Enrico Ferrarini and Marco Malerba, and performances by producers Vaghe Stelle, Petit Singe, Godblesscomputers, and Osiris. Magma's programming aimed to counteract the mainstream entertainment model of Milano Marittima, a resort town originally developed by Milanese investors as Italy's first vacation village. The area saw 60% of its coastline altered by construction over two decades, erasing over 80 kilometers of beaches. The festival highlighted a vibrant underground scene in Romagna, drawing young audiences who embraced experimental culture. Club Adriatico, a winter event series, also contributed to the region's cultural scene.
