Magister Canova: Digital Immersive Show in Venice

exhibition · 2026-05-04

A new digital exhibition, Magister Canova, launched in Venice, offering an immersive experience of Antonio Canova's works without displaying original artworks. The project, created by Cose Belle d'Italia, features scientific content curated by scholars including Giuseppe Pavanello, Steffi Roettgen, Johannes Myssok, and Andrea Bellieni. It is the second installment of a format that began with Giotto (63,000 visitors last year) and will conclude with Raphael in 2019. The exhibition is accessible via an app narrated by Adriano Giannini with music by Giovanni Sollima. It includes high-resolution images and innovative materials at the Scuola Grande della Misericordia. A highlight is an installation by artist Fabrizio Plessi, featuring a giant head representing Canova's self-portrait, where visitors can enter to view a video interpretation of the sculptor's creative process. The exhibition also presents a new interpretation of Canova's 'Amore e Psiche' by Giuliano Pisani, suggesting it depicts Psyche's return to life rather than a kiss.
