Magic Carpets 2019: Flowing Cities in Rome's Corviale and Laurentino 38

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

The second edition of Magic Carpets, a network of international exhibitions and residencies co-funded by Creative Europe Large Scale Programme, focuses on Rome's suburban housing complexes Corviale and Laurentino 38 under the theme 'Flowing Cities'. Curated by Benedetta Carpi de Resmini (founder of Latitudo – Art Projects) and Giulia Pardini, the project involves artists Yves Mettler and Patricia Geraldes. Mettler, a Swiss-German artist, explores urban structures and social meanings of public spaces, working with local youth on a comic strip and a video-sound piece. Geraldes, supported by the Mitreo – Iside cultural center in Corviale, creates diaries with residents based on stories and images. The final exhibition will be held at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma on June 17, 2019. Additional events include artist talks at MACRO – Asilo in early June and a roundtable discussion with local organizations. The project addresses marginal areas and peripheries, building on the 2018 edition themed 'The Other, the Stranger' at AlbumArte in Rome.
