Magazzino Italian Art's 2022 exhibitions focus on nature and ecology
Magazzino Italian Art in Cold Spring, New York, announced its 2022 program centered on nature and ecology. Founded in 2017 by Giorgio Spanu and Nancy Olnick, the museum houses over 500 works of postwar Italian art, mainly Arte Povera. Two exhibitions will open in May: Piero Gilardi's 'Tappeto-Natura' (curated by Elena Re, from May 7) and Formafantasma at Manitoga's Dragon Rock (from May 22). Gilardi's show is the first US museum survey of his work, featuring his signature polyurethane foam 'Nature Carpets' that explore the contradiction between artificial and natural. The Formafantasma exhibition, organized with Manitoga/Russel Wright Design Center, places the Italian duo's early works in dialogue with Russel Wright's Hudson Valley home and studio. Director Vittorio Calabrese also announced a conference series curated by Katie Larson, continued collaboration with Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò, and a solo show by Margherita Raso at the Italian Cultural Institute. A new pavilion designed by Alberto Campo Baeza and Miguel Quismondo, named after Robert Olnick, is under construction and will open in spring 2023.
