Magazzino Italian Art Expands in Hudson Valley with New Pavilion

Magazzino Italian Art, a museum of Italian art located in Cold Spring, New York, is expanding with a new pavilion, the Robert Olnick Pavilion, expected to open in the second half of 2023. Founded in 2017 by collectors Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu, the institution has become a key reference for Italian culture in the US. Director Vittorio Calabrese discusses the museum's mission to present Italian art in a global context, its roots in Arte Povera, and its community-focused programming. The expansion will house temporary exhibitions, a design gallery, an education space, and a café, while the existing building will consolidate the Arte Povera collection. Magazzino collaborates with the Italian Consulate, Istituto di Cultura, Casa Italiana NYU, and other institutions. Recent projects include a solo show by Namsal Siedlecki and a performance by Cristian Chironi driving a Fiat 127. The museum also addresses diversity and equity through initiatives like Pensiero Plurale with curator Ilaria Conti. The expansion aims to double the visitor experience and boost local tourism.
