Magazzino Italian Art Conference on Fabio Mauri's Fascism Performances for Holocaust Remembrance Day
On January 27, 2025, a conference named 'Fabio Mauri: What is Fascism' will take place at Magazzino Italian Art in Cold Spring, New York, in observance of Holocaust Remembrance Day. Curated by Pieranna Cavalchini, this event is a collaboration with the Centro Primo Levi of New York and the Consulate General of Italy. It will examine Mauri's performances 'Che cos'è il fascismo' and 'Ebrea' (1971), which are significant early works in Italian contemporary art that confront themes of Jewish persecution and Nazi-fascism. The conference will be accessible through Zoom and YouTube. Fabio Mauri (1926–2009) commenced his artistic journey in Rome during the mid-1950s. Magazzino, established by Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu, opened its doors in 2017, later adding the Germano Celant Research Center and Robert Olnick Pavilion in 2023.
