Magazzino Italian Art Announces 2020 Program Focused on Italian-American Exchange

exhibition · 2026-04-27

In 2017, Giorgio Spanu and Nancy Olnick established Magazzino Italian Art along the Hudson River in New York. The 2020 program focuses on fostering connections between Italian and American artists. The Olnick Spanu Collection features over 500 pieces of post-war Italian art, especially Arte Povera. Vittorio Calabrese, the director, noted that the initiative seeks to examine Arte Povera and contemporary Italian art from a global perspective. A key event is a Mel Bochner exhibition starting June 13, which pairs his works with those of Alighiero Boetti and Lucio Fontana, sourced from various archives. Additionally, a solo show for Namsal Siedlecki will run from May 5 to June 18 at Casa Italiana Zerilli Marimò (NYU), showcasing unique sculptural canvases. The fall will see "Arte Povera e 'Multipli', Torino 1970-1975" debuting on October 27 at the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, featuring works commissioned by Giorgio Persano from notable artists, organized in collaboration with Fondazione ICA Milano.
