Magali Reus Awarded 2015 Prix de Rome Visual Arts Prize
Magali Reus, a Dutch-born artist working in the UK, has been named the winner of the 2015 Prix de Rome for the visual arts. Her winning project is titled Leaves. The prize, established in 1808 by Louis Napoleon, is considered the Netherlands' most prestigious award for visual artists under 40 years old. Reus receives €40,000 (approximately £30,000) and a residency at the American Academy in Rome. The work of all four finalists—including the collective Foundland, Hedwig Houben, and Christian Nyampeta—is currently exhibited at de Appel arts centre in Amsterdam. This exhibition runs until 17 January 2016. Since January 2013, administration of the award has been handled by the Mondriaan Fund. The announcement was made on 18 December 2015.
