Mafalda and Pimpa meet in Rome: first joint exhibition at Instituto Cervantes
For the first time, comic icons Mafalda and Pimpa are exhibited together at the Instituto Cervantes in Rome from May 14 to July 11, 2026. Curated by Stefano Piccoli and Daniele Bonomo, the show features over 120 works, including original strips and Artist's Edition reproductions. Mafalda, created by Quino in 1964, and Pimpa, created by Altan in 1975, represent two distinct visions of childhood: Mafalda critically questions adult world issues like war and injustice, while Pimpa explores a gentle universe of discovery and wonder. The exhibition is organized in collaboration with ARF! Festival, Franco Cosimo Panini, Quipos S.r.l., and Caminito S.a.s. The main hall displays works from both characters, while two adjacent rooms are dedicated individually to Quino and Altan. The curators emphasize that the show speaks to children to reach adults, highlighting childhood as a privileged vantage point on reality.
