Maeve Brennan and Imran Perretta Awarded Jerwood/FVU Prizes for Moving-Image Works

award · 2026-04-20

Maeve Brennan and Imran Perretta have been named recipients of the 2018 Jerwood/FVU Awards, each receiving £20,000 to create new moving-image projects. Their winning proposals for the fifth edition, themed 'Unintended Consequences', explore contemporary ecological and social issues. Brennan will investigate wind turbines' impacts on landscape ecosystems, while Perretta examines the dehumanization of refugees through asylum seeker testimonies versus public perception. Selected by a jury including Noor Afshan Mirza, George Vasey, Steven Bode, and Sarah Williams, both artists are within their first five years of practice. The commissioned works will premiere at Jerwood Space from 6 April to 3 June 2018, followed by a UK tour. The award recognizes proposals that reflect the entangled nature of modern experience, addressing how well-intentioned actions can produce unexpected outcomes.
