Maetherea: London studio merges matter and ether in performative landscapes
Founded in 2018 in London by Cristina Morbi and Aurora Destro, Maetherea is a multidisciplinary studio that merges public art with landscape architecture. The duo, both hailing from Italy, is inspired by their homeland's misty and water-abundant environment. Their projects, mainly across Europe and the UK, treat all living entities with equal importance and regard landscape designs as semi-permanent structures. Since 2016, they have partnered with universities to explore climate change and 'performative landscapes.' Graduates of Politecnico di Milano, Morbi studied in China while Destro pursued her education in India. Their installations, intended to last a minimum of ten years, celebrate transformation and the inclusion of all life forms. Morbi aspires for radical architecture, while Destro envisions poetic spaces that improve life quality.
