Madrid Hosts First Major Exhibition on Auschwitz and the Holocaust

The Centro de Exposiciones Arte Canal in Madrid presents 'Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away.', the first major exhibition on Auschwitz and the Holocaust in Spain. Organized by Musealia in collaboration with the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, the show features over 600 objects, including 400 never before loaned from Auschwitz, plus items from international Jewish institutions and families of deportees. A team of historians led by Robert Jan van Pelt curated the content. The exhibition includes an original Deutsche Reichsbahn freight car, a barrack from sub-camp Monowitz, personal belongings of victims, torture instruments of Dr. Mengele, and a 'Juden Raus' board game. It runs until June 17, 2018, and is part of a seven-year agreement to tour 14 capitals in Europe and the USA. Director Luis Ferreiro conceived the project after reading Viktor Frankl's 'Man's Search for Meaning'. The exhibition also features a soundtrack by Ludovico Einaudi, who collaborated on the audio guide.
