Madrid Gallery Weekend 2025 Returns with 55 Galleries and New Initiatives

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

From September 11 to 14, 2025, the 16th edition of Apertura will take place during the Madrid Gallery Weekend, organized by Arte Madrid. This year, 55 galleries will present simultaneous openings featuring 100 artists, with 60% coming from abroad, showcased in 9 group exhibitions and 46 solo displays. New additions include Apertura Kids and a contemporary sculpture exhibit at Museo Lázaro Galdiano, running until October 26. While the market shows signs of stagnation, there is a sense of cautious optimism. Newcomers such as Bombon Projects, Villa Magdalena, and Artizar will participate. Arte Madrid's president, Pablo Flórez, emphasizes Spain's cultural rise but points out the challenge of a 21% VAT. The event pairs established masters with emerging artists and 20th-century rediscoveries. Concurrent retrospectives will be held at Museo Reina Sofía and Sala Alcalá 31. Attendees can use the free ARTE MADRID APP for navigation.
