Madrid exhibition explores Gaetano Pesce's dialogue with Fish Design

exhibition · 2026-04-26

A homage exhibition at the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid, open until May 24, celebrates Fish Design, the self-production project founded by Gaetano Pesce in the mid-1990s in New York. Curated by Domitilla Dardi, the show highlights Pesce's collaboration with artisan Andrea Corsi, whom Pesce chose as his custodian in the early 2000s. Dardi notes that Corsi is not merely an executor but an interpreter and co-author of the process, continuing to add pieces to the collection guided by the slogans 'Chi fa diventa artista' and 'Senza nessun ordine.' The exhibition emphasizes Pesce's use of resin, an amorphous material that yields unpredictable results, embodying his philosophy of imperfection and uniqueness. Fish Design blurs boundaries between art and design, producing infinite series where each piece is unique due to the uncontrollable mixing of colored pastes. The show reconstructs Fish Design's workshop atmosphere, mixing tests, models, prototypes, and finished pieces to narrate a thirty-year story. It also showcases a Made in Italy model combining artisanal care, artistic research, and high-quality replicable series. The exhibition is free and open Tuesday to Saturday from 12:00 to 20:00.
