Madrid Design Festival 2020: Turin as Guest City

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

The third edition of the Madrid Design Festival runs throughout February 2020 in Madrid, with Turin as the invited city. Organized by La Fábrica, the festival features over 250 activities, 66 exhibitions, 12 urban installations, and 400 professionals. The opening event at Centro Cultural de la Villa honors Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola with the exhibition 'Nature Morte Vivante,' her first solo show in Spain. Another exhibition, 'Funciono! Porque soy así!', displays 100 design objects from the private collection of gallerist Moisés Pérez de Albéniz. IKEA will transform rooms at Palacio de Santa Bárbara into a laboratory for imagining living spaces in the 2030s. Turin's presence includes designer Giorgetto Giugiaro as a special guest on February 13 at COAM. The Marca collection, featuring prototypes by architects Barbara Brondi and Marco Rainó, is shown for the first time abroad at DMad, Centro del Diseño in Matadero. The initiative 'Design, un viaggio tra Italia e Spagna,' organized by the Italian Embassy in Madrid with INTERNI magazine, continues for its third edition, with selected young Spanish designers collaborating with Italian companies Baleri Italia, Disegno Mobile, Marinelli Luce, and True Design. The best prototypes will be exhibited at the next Fuori Salone in Milan. The festival is directed by Álvaro Matías, with advisors including Deyan Sudjic (Design Museum London), Ippolito Pestellini (OMA-AMO), Julio Capella, Pilar Marcos, and Marisa Santamaría.
