Madelon Vriesendorp Retrospective at Sir John Soane’s Museum This Summer
From July 15 to September 20, Sir John Soane’s Museum in London will present "Madelon Vriesendorp: Mind Games," a retrospective honoring the OMA cofounder and recipient of the 2025 Soane Medal. This exhibition will showcase 50 pieces from her personal collection. Vriesendorp, recognized for works such as "Flagrant Délits" and "Captive Globe," also designs whimsical devices; the subtitle alludes to her psychoanalytical toolkit known as the Critical Pursuit Home Analysis Kit, or Mind Game. Alongside a large-scale Mind Game installation, attendees can view early jewelry, etchings, drawings, book covers, and recent sculptures. Notable new pieces from her Plastic Surgery series, crafted from recycled materials, feature swans, elephants, and priests, as well as eggs reimagined as 20th-century dictators. The curatorial statement emphasizes her ability to transform ordinary materials into humor and beauty, making her a deserving recipient of the Soane Medal.
