Madeleine Hatz Performs Klein-Inspired Painting at Elga Wimmer Gallery

exhibition · 2026-04-22

On June 11, Madeleine Hatz showcased 'The Klein Blue Performance' in Williamsburg, organized by Creative Thriftshop. Dressed in lyotards matching IKB paint, she utilized her hands and feet to create a large drop canvas, allowing paint to drip and print along her body’s shape. This performance draws inspiration from Yves Klein's anthropometries while addressing his sexism by employing herself as the brush instead of nude models. Although photographs may evoke Carolee Schneemann's 'Meat Joy,' the addition of a Jordi Savall soundtrack lends a meditative quality to the experience. Hatz is set to reprise this performance on July 22 at 6pm at Elga Wimmer gallery, 526 West 26, #310, where her YKB Ceilings series will also be displayed. This event was highlighted as an artcritical PIC in July 2009.
