MADD Bordeaux Reopens with Major Renovation and Pauline Deltour Retrospective

architecture-design · 2026-04-24

The Musée des Arts Décoratifs et du Design (MADD) in Bordeaux reopened on April 22, 2026, after a renovation by architecture firm Antoine Dufour. The project transformed the entrance, adding a glass-walled café and shop, improving accessibility, and connecting the 18th-century hôtel de Lalande to the adjacent former prison used for temporary exhibitions. The design reveals original stone walls, increases natural light, and reduces energy consumption by 40%. Three inaugural exhibitions include a selection of drawings from the Jacques Sargos collection, a survey of 80 ceramics from antiquity to contemporary works by Hattori Makiko, and a retrospective of French designer Pauline Deltour (1983–2021), featuring 180 objects for brands like Alessi and La Poste. The Deltour exhibition includes personal tributes from family and colleagues. Further renovations will continue until 2027.
