MAD's Hainan Science Museum 'Floats' in Haikou

The Hainan Science Museum, designed by MAD Architects under the leadership of Ma Yansong, has been finalized in Haikou, China. Spanning 46,528 square meters, its unique spiraling architecture links all exhibition spaces and features two distinct entrances for varied visitor experiences. Situated adjacent to Wuyuan River National Wetland Park, the museum has attracted more than 350,000 guests since its trial opening four months ago. It boasts a planetarium, a giant-screen cinema, and a sunken plaza. The building's design incorporates three concrete core tubes, enabling column-free exhibition areas and an open ground level. Ma Yansong highlighted the importance of fostering curiosity in children rather than merely presenting information, particularly in the context of artificial intelligence. Additionally, over 30 schools and nurseries are located within a three-kilometer radius of the museum.
