architecture-design · 2026-04-27

MAD Architects, the influential Chinese architecture firm founded by Ma Yansong in 2004, has opened a studio in Rome's Ostiense district, directed by Andrea D'Antrassi. The office, staffed by about 15 young Italian professionals, oversees all European projects from Paris to Milan. The firm is also working on the Fenix Museum of Immigration in Rotterdam, a large-scale project in the former port area, and has been attempting for over a decade to start a construction site in central Rome on Via Boncompagni. In Milan, MAD is involved in a project within the MIND innovation district, the former Expo area. D'Antrassi, a partner at MAD who returned to Italy after a long career in China, praised the high quality of Italian training.
