MAD Architects and Studio Gang selected for George Lucas's Chicago narrative art museum
Ma Yansong of Beijing's MAD Architects will design the building for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Chicago, while Jeanne Gang from Studio Gang Architects will handle the grounds and surrounding areas. The museum, planned for Chicago's lakefront, will display over 500,000 items from George Lucas's collection, including Star Wars memorabilia. Chicago firm VOA Architects will serve as executive architects. Designs must still gain approval from the Chicago Plan Commission and may face legal challenges regarding zoning laws and public access to the lakefront site. The projected opening is set for 2018.
