MACTE Termoli's Educational Program: Art as a Tool for Social Change

institutional · 2026-04-27

The MACTE Museum of Contemporary Art in Termoli, Italy, has developed a comprehensive educational program since its opening in early 2019. Director Caterina Riva and Amalia Vitale, head of the educational service, outlined the museum's didactic methodology and offerings. The program is based on collective observation of artworks, followed by hands-on creative activities and relational exchanges. It targets diverse audiences: from preschool to university students, families, adults, social associations, and cultural centers. A key focus is sustainability, inspired by the exhibition 'Le 3 ecologie,' which led to 57 workshops. The museum aims to dispel the myth that contemporary art is difficult and elitist. During May and June 2022, inclusive creative labs were held for middle school classes and adult learners from Afghanistan, Albania, Nigeria, Russia, and Bangladesh. The fall program resumes in October, aligned with the school year, featuring temporary exhibitions and the permanent collection from the Premio Termoli.
