MACRS Launches First General Catalog After 30 Years, Highlighting 1,813 Works and 921 Artists
The Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Rio Grande do Sul (MACRS) has unveiled its inaugural general catalog, which encompasses 1,813 artworks created by 921 artists. This comprehensive 300-page volume, which took two years to compile, was overseen by Vera Pellin and curated by Maria Amélia Bulhões. To commemorate this milestone, an exhibition featuring 70 pieces from the collection, also curated by Bulhões, showcases the progression of contemporary art since the 1970s. Impressively, 47% of the featured artists are women, challenging global norms. The collection highlights prominent Brazilian figures such as Cildo Meirelles and Regina Silveira. Established in 1992 in Porto Alegre, the museum is currently located on the 6th floor of the Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana and has plans for a new venue. The catalog is accessible online in various languages.
