MACRO Opens "UNAROMA" Exhibition on Rome's Art Scene
The MACRO museum in Rome has launched "UNAROMA," the inaugural exhibition of Cristiana Perrella's directorship, co-curated with former director Luca Lo Pinto. The show aims to capture Rome's hybrid and generative artistic landscape through three sections: Set (main exhibition), Live (performances and DJ sets), and Off (events in independent spaces). The exhibition features over 40 artists, with a green screen-inspired installation by Parasite 2.0. Notable works include Tomaso Binga's sound piece referencing Roman dialect, Lulù Nuti's vertical and residual seas, Gabriele Silli's river cages, and Tomaso De Luca's exploration of body and architecture. The review criticizes the main exhibition for lacking clear selection criteria and depth, describing it as a weak and generic portrait of Rome. However, the collateral shows on upper floors offer more focused narratives: "One Day You'll Understand. 25 anni da Dissonanze" reconstructs the influential festival; "Jonathas de Andrade. Sorelle senza nome" screens a video on nuns fleeing Brazil's dictatorship; and "Abitare le rovine del presente" adapts the Agency for Better Living project from the Austrian Pavilion at the 2025 Architecture Biennale.
