MACRO Museum in Rome Hosts Sonata Festival with Supervoid Scenography

The MACRO – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Via Nizza in Rome is hosting Sonata, a festival of music and performance, through September 22, 2024. The festival reflects the interdisciplinary approach of the Museo per l’Immaginazione Preventiva program, conceived by director Luca Lo Pinto, and features concerts, shows, and performances. The initiative aims to activate non-exhibition spaces of the museum through scenographies titled Rapsodia, created by Roman architecture studio Supervoid. The installation repurposes materials from past exhibition setups stored in the museum's deposits, transforming them into three installations: a backdrop, a screen, and a wing. These are placed in the foyer and terrace, spaces described as having an urban character. Supervoid members Anna Livia Friel, Benjamin Gallegos Gabilondo, and Marco Provinciali explained that the project responds to the museum's request to reuse materials. The scenographies allow artists and musicians to inhabit the spaces and are designed for different moments of the festival program. Supervoid has upcoming projects: an installation for the exhibition Artists Making Books curated by Ilaria Puri Purini with Sebastian Hierl, Lexi Eberspacher, and Johanne Affricot, opening September 26, 2024 at the American Academy Rome; and another for Memorabile – Ipermoda, promoted by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and curated by Maria Luisa Frisa at the Museo MAXXI, opening November 27, 2024.
