MACBA and CaixaForum Barcelona present ambitious survey of contemporary art through Catalan lens

An exhibition showcasing contemporary art from Barcelona is currently being held at the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona and CaixaForum Barcelona, featuring 400 pieces by 125 artists. Due to financial difficulties, including a €1.5 million shortfall from the Spanish government, MACBA partnered with La Caixa Foundation. The exhibition delves into the concept of 'contemporariness' in the context of Barcelona's history, spanning from the 1888 and 1929 Expositions to the post-Fordist economy. Notable artists include Antoni Tàpies, Ferran Garcia Sevilla, and José Pérez Ocaña. While MACBA presents archival materials reflecting Barcelona's identity, CaixaForum highlights international works alongside local talents like Ignasi Aballí. The exhibition is available until January at MACBA and until December 29 at CaixaForum, initially reviewed in October 2013.
