MAC VAL partners with Centre Pompidou during renovation, opens Arnaud Labelle-Rojoux exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Centre Pompidou, designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers and inaugurated in 1977, closed in September 2025 for a comprehensive renovation expected to last until 2030. During this period, its activities will be distributed across French cultural centers, including a new partnership with MAC VAL in Val-de-Marne. The collaboration launches with the exhibition "Voyez-vous ça !" dedicated to French artist Arnaud Labelle-Rojoux (born 1950 in Paris), running until February 15, 2026. The show spans forty years of his career, featuring works, collages, performances, and texts. It opens with "LCDB (Le Culte des Banni.e.s)," a 2024 book by Labelle-Rojoux reflecting on figures excluded from official art canons. Live performances, often created with Xavier Boussiron, include "Le Manifeste de la passion triste," blending music, speech, and gesture. The centerpiece is "SMS (Stop Making Sense)," a monumental work of 365 daily collages from October 2021 to October 2022, forming a visual mosaic. The title references the Talking Heads. The final section, "++ (Overmore)," recycles works from previous exhibitions such as "Rien à branler des chiens," "L'oignon fait la sauce," "Étant damné," and "C'est écrit dessus." Labelle-Rojoux explains that the exhibition title "Voyez-vous ça!" emphasizes looking, surprise, and sarcasm.
