Mac/Val Opens in Vitry-sur-Seine with Monory Show
On November 17, 2005, the Musée d'art contemporain du Val-de-Marne (Mac/Val) was inaugurated in Vitry-sur-Seine, showcasing its collection alongside a Jacques Monory exhibition, which runs until January 19, 2006. The museum's inception can be traced back to a decentralization initiative from 1982, with Raoul-Jean Moulin spearheading art acquisitions. Initially concentrating on the second École de Paris, Nouveaux Réalistes, and Support-Surface, the collection expanded under the guidance of curator Alexia Fabre, who joined in late 1998. Designed by Jacques Ripault and Denis Duhart, the facility covers 13,000 m² (with 4,000 m² dedicated to exhibitions) and offers €4 admission. Amenities include a library, auditorium-cinema, artist studios, a garden, and a restaurant, supported by an annual budget of €535,000 for acquisitions and commissions.
